Donaghue Foundation

 Donaghue213

Welcome to AfterConference, the Donaghue blog about our 2009 conference held on April 29. Donaghue created this blog to invite attendees at our April 29th BeyondEureka! conference Innovation in the quest for better health:Patient-driven transformations in research, technology and treaments to keep the conversation going.

Why this topic?

Frankly, we thought these speakers–Alex Jadad, Sharon Terry and Ben Heywood –would shake us all up. They are each bringing about seismic paradigm shifts in the health arena that call into question a lot of things that matter in the research world–controlled trials, privacy and patient protection, openness and sharing of findings, public and patient engagement in improving health and dealing with disease.

We invite you to give us feedback , express your thoughts on what the speakers had to say and meet with like-minded fellow attendees interested in driving innovation and making change to improve health. Our How was the meeting ? page summarizes the evaluations we collected at the meeting.  Please add your voice.

Many thanks to all who made the 2009 Donaghue conference such a great success: our wonderful speakers, the members of our support team – the hotel, the AV guys, our photographer and videographer, and our helpers (Kate, Randy, Judy, and Nan) – and, of course, the conference participants.

Yesterday, several people said to us “how are you going to top this one?” Good question! We’d love to hear your suggestions. Please let us know your ideas for next year’s conference speakers or themes.

The conference was great! Every speaker was really interesting and had useful insights to add. It was a real pleasure to be there.

    thanks

  3. Eileen Schuman Says:

Wonderful conference. Incredible how the speakers “played” off each other’s positions/statements. Gave me a lot to think about afterwards. Look forward to next year’s event!

Quite a thought provoking conference. By taking the mystery out of a disease and communicating openly with others with similar diagnosis does it faciliate better compliance, and improve patient outcomes and lessen the burden on already overworked primary care providers or the reverse? I am curious what others think. Has anyone had experience using the tools shown by Ms. Terry and Mr. Heywood?

I am sure somebody mentioned the Medicine 2.0 congress (Social Media, Web 2.0 and Medicine) we are organizing in Toronto – here is the URL: http://www.medicine20congress.com
